           At North East Tuning we have a 'thing.' 
          &#xD;

          That thing is Golf GTD's, I don't know why, so here's what we do, how we tune, what we do and why.

            That obviously transfers across to anything with the 2.0 184HP engine, so if you're thinking about remapping your Audi A3, Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia or basically anything with the 2.0TDI 184 engine...Stay tuned.

            When the car comes in we give it a visual check under the bonnet, check what software version the engine and gearbox are on (if applicable) and line them up. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Then we road test it and datalog it, paying close attention to boost control, exhaust temperatures, DPF pressure, EGR function and fuel pressure. To give us a full picture of the cars health. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            If it's a stage 1 tune, I don't custom tune these anymore. Lets be honest we've done enough of them now that I've earned the right to flash the right tune to the right car, and we have extensive revisions notes and datalogs that we have the perfect tune for every 'standard hardware' GTD imaginable. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Once that engine tune is in, we pick an appropriate gearbox tune (if it's a DSG) to give the driving feel the customer wants. Or if you've got a specific set of requirements we will custom tune for you. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Then we start the process all over again, health check, on road data logging, road testing and getting feedback from the car and the driver to ensure what we've done is a good fit for the car and ticks the boxes for the driver. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Those results have been dyno proven by many other tuners on our behalf, generally we tune these to around 220-225hp and 470-480nm ish. In the power figure race that's distinctly average, but the quality of tune shines through on the road and enhances the long term ownership experience.

    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            We make massive improvements to both the DQ250 6 speed variants, or DQ380 7 speed gearbox, giving a sharper and more consistent throttle response. With sensible torque limitations, reduced shift speeds and a revised shift map to keep the car in smooth, efficient torque. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          The way we tune keeps the original exhaust temperature protections in place, for safety. We correctly calibrate the torque monitoring and nm2iq tables so the DSG gearbox works properly. No corners are cut to get the best for you, and your car.

      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            We don't operate a dyno, what we offer is custom on road tuning. If you think dyno figures mean a quality tune we probably aren't the tuner for you.

    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

            We charge £449 for a stage 1 engine and gearbox tune, which gets you all of the above. 
           &#xD;

    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;

          Reliability: 
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            I massively rate these, we get them in with all sorts of backgrounds and mileages and they are a hardy engine. There's a few inherent issues, they've been known to do head gaskets or give the symptoms of headgasket failure which is usually the EGR cooler or charge cooler. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Exhaust gas temperature sensors do fail on them, which causes a 'pogo' feeling when you're pressing on as the exhaust temp effectively bounces off the protection limits. It feels like you're lifting on and off the throttle. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            They're known for oil usage. VAG claim 1L per 1000kms is 'acceptable', it's usually worn piston rings. If your GTD is using oil, prep yourself for repair BEFORE tuning. The additional cylinder pressure isn't going to help that. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Clutches, not really an issue on these they're more than up to the task. But as a consumable, wear and tear item if it slips...It needs a new one. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The DPF's on these are known to frequently regenerate. There's a rabbit hole you can go down, cleaning the DPF, changing the pressure sensor, checking the EGT sensors work correctly, cleaning out the pressure sensor pipes etc...Most people end up removing the DPF and fitting an uprated downpipe, which does give a boost in economy. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Economy: 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            I don't promote that you'll get better MPG, more power means more fuel. They're the facts. However for a combined driving cycle, driven with economy in mind you could see a small improvement. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Next steps: 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            Past a stage 1 tune, the hardware on these cars is really well balanced. With the DPF removed, EGR blanked a healthy car will see around the 240hp mark with a gentle haze of smoke at full throttle. Hybrid turbos are available, and various bolt on things. But past a stage 1 tune unless you're doing everything, you're not going to see much more than 240hp. So IMO, keep it there. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            The cost, time and effort involved in a hybrid turbo, upgrading the fuel system etc is going to leave you a couple of grand out of pocket and a cylinder head that doesn't want to flow much anyway. Just buy a faster car. 
           &#xD;
      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;

    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;

            Distance:

    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          Pretty blunt one this. You don't have to come to us, there's plenty of fantastic competent tuners in the UK who do a great job. 
         &#xD;

  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
        
            But if you like what we do and want us to work on your car, you're cruising around in an expensive car you clearly love. It's worth a day out to do it properly...

      &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
